"Tires are a mess on the pad. Transmission cannot take any heat.
1st accel run and it flashed an overheat warning and went downhill from there.
Eventually went into limp mode and shifted early. Needs cooling passes."

Pre/early production model woes?

Seeing that the date was April of 2018 it's most likely a early production model. All though I haven't heard much on members reporting of overheating issues.

Interesting, wonder if they beat on it before the first test.
Probably no more rigorous than when testing other cars?

Yeah, I haven't seen people reporting that issue either. Just thought it was curious ...

A couple of things that I have to wonder about the tires. Although it is a GT2 awd, according to the test notes, the car was equipped with 18” wheels and Bridgestone all season tires. Nothing against Bridgestone but I wonder how the car would have performed with the 19” Michelin summer tires that are standard for the car. My 2018 GT2 AWD has a January, 2018 build date and I’ve had no cooling system problems, at all.

My '19 GT AWD w/18" All Season Bridgestone's hasn't had any issues either, cooling or otherwise.

I did some research and found the car C&D reported the issue with became their long term test car:
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a22993952/kia-stinger-gt-reliability-long-term-update/

In their 10,000 mile follow up, I located this remark:
"Happily, the transmission-overheat warning we experienced almost immediately in our first trip to the track remained at bay this time until our last few runs. The Stinger's on-road performance gives no indication that its transmission is heat sensitive, which leads us to believe this isn't a problem that will crop up in even the most grueling on-road duty cycle."
