I stick to the factory suspension as far as it has strut support

At most I'd probably go with lowering springs.

I'm going to go with stock first and see how it handles. If it is anything like my i30 with it's MacPherson I will most likley stay stock. However if it does not handle that good I'll go with "real" coil-overs.

If you get the active suspension, coil overs will remove all suspension controls.

(Im guessing you will get the GT)

No I'm going for the 2 liter. As far as I know only the 3.3 will be available as GT and that will just cost too much in Germany. Road Tax alone will be about double that of the 2 liter with ~480 ?/year.

I'm not to keen on the active suspension. I remember that crap from my old Mercedes with the ABC active suspension if you need to fix the ABC say goodbye to about 3k ?.

Good point about tge repair costs. ....

I have coil overs on my Optima and i love em but Im hoping for at least lowerd springs to make it look neat.

Mild lowering springs or maybe leaving it stock as down here in LA the roads are really bad.

I'll take a well tuned suspension over an active suspension. I'm going to learn more about the coil over kit mentioned because my shocks are too soft. I'm going to make sure they are operating properly because they are so soft I'm thinking they must be defective. Changing springs won't necessarily deliver what I want which is stiff recoil valving. So the car stays close to the ground even if you go over a rise at high speed. I call it 'buttoned down'. Nothing has ever been as buttoned down as my 1991 Alfa Romeo 164S. That was adaptive suspension. But, when it was on sport, it was STIFF! When it was on comfort, it floated like a caddy. When it was on smart, it was pretty amazing. The difference between comfort and sport in my Stinger is barely perceptible and I don't feel any change in the rear. My plan, make sure it's working properly, and if it is, swap out for coil overs.

What I'm saying is that the rear suspension is soft and out of phase with the front. That means if you go through a dip at high speed the front and the rear compress equally, then the front comes up and stabilizes (good) but the rear comes up more and comes down before stabilizing. So the front is stiffer in recoil than the rear. If the system is working properly, but yielding those results, I'll swap it out because it's not right. I do hope the dealer says "that's not right" and it gets fixed. But I've seen and heard this is a problem. One of the videos online from the SEMA show indicated it. I spent seven years in the suspension business, tuning shocks for Hummers, busses, and off road vehicles like ATV's and snowmobiles . So I'm making these observations, and sharing them in the forum as an expert (aka Suspension Snob). I can't believe Albert Biermann would allow this. So I'm hopeful my suspension has a defect.

Mind, that VW was followed by a Ford Contour SVT, A Saab Viggen, and Saab 9-5 AERO's until now. All those cars were well dampened. This is the first time I'll be considering a shock and spring change. It's complicated stuff if you're looking to change both. They have to be matched as a set. Hence a coil over is a spring and a shock. But is it a good combo... who knows? If the shocks/struct are adjustable, then that allows for tuning (to a degree). I'll look forward to any info from those companies you emailed. I won't be doing anything rash. But I will be doing something.

Gotcha, I'll keep you posted and appreciate if you did the same.

Some Eibach or H&R lowering springs if I get around to it. With something being in warranty, I don't like to void it. It'll be a daily for me and I drive a lot so I'm not wanting to compromise practicality for looks.

That's interesting and I understand your concern. Ask your dealer because I've never had warranty affected by changing springs, shocks, exhaust, or even chips and ECU's. Of course you lose warranty coverage for those items, but not for the rest of the car. If the mod(s) craps out, you have the original to put back if that's appropriate.

Going to leave it stock, even though I like how it looks with a slight drop, I already have a toy on coilovers that I can have fun with.
