Revealed late last year, the 2019 Genesis G70 is the long-awaited entry-level vehicle from Hyundai Motor’s flagship luxury brand. The up-and-coming luxury automaker finally fills a big gap in their lineup with the G70, while also offering one of the most appealing choices in its segment.

The compact luxury sports sedan is available with a variety of drivetrains, including a Sport model that utilizes a manual transmission to drive the rear wheels. Genesis recently announced that the G70 goes on sale by the end of September, with pricing beginning from $35,895.

Two model series of the 2019 Genesis G70 will be available at launch: 2.0T, which uses a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 252 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and 3.3T with a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 making 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque.

Genesis offers Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Dynamic, Sport, and Sport M/T trims for the G70 2.0T, while the G70 3.3T is available in Advanced, Elite, Prestige, and Sport trims. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional for an extra $2,000 on all trims, with the exception of the 2.0T Prestige (AWD only) and Sport M/T (RWD only). Most models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission, while a 6-speed manual is available for the 2.0T Sport M/T. Factoring in the $995 destination charge, 2.0T Advanced RWD models begin at $35,895, while the 2.0T Advanced AWD begins at $37,895.

The new Genesis G70 offers strong value. Even in the base 2.0T Advanced trim, safety features such as automatic emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and drowsy driver alert systems are all standard. To further entice buyers, Genesis also includes a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection technology.

The Genesis G70 2.0T Sport 6MT trim provides arguably the best bang for your buck. The RWD-only trim is just $38,895 and packed with performance and comfort features. It includes a Brembo braking system, sport exhaust system, multi-plate limited-slip differential, heated and ventilated front seats, manual parking brake, and a 15-speaker audio system. And, oh, by the way, it’s the only version of the sporty compact sedan that allows drivers to row their own gears.

The 2.0T Elite adds LED headlights, an improved audio system, heated and cooled seats, rain-sensing wipers, and other additional equipment. Pricing starts at $40,895 for the RWD model and $42,895 for the AWD model. The 2.0T Prestige is AWD only, with pricing beginning at $45,895. With the 2.0T Prestige trim, items such as a head-up display, heated rear seats, and Nappa leather upholstery are all standard.

Perfomance-oriented upgrades mark the 2.0T Dynamic trim, such as a limited-slip differential for the RWD model, which begins at $44,895. The 2.0T Sport also includes the limited-slip differential and 19-inch wheels from the Dynamic trim, as well as various exclusive exterior accents. Pricing for the 2.0T Sport begins at $45,895, while the AWD model costs $47,895.

When it comes to the 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T models, the Advanced trim is the least expensive, beginning at $44,745 for a RWD model and $46,745 when equipped with AWD. The 3.3T Advanced includes a Brembo braking system, LED headlights, leather seating, a navigation system, and more. The 3.3T Elite adds front and rear parking sensors, a sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers, with pricing beginning at $46,495 for the RWD model and $46,745 for cars equipped with AWD.

The 3.3T Prestige trim begins at $48,995 for the RWD model and $50,995 with AWD, and includes a head-up display, heated rear seats, a 360-degree camera, and Nappa leather upholstery as standard. Finally, the range-topping G70 3.3T Sport adds an electronically controlled suspension, copper headlight accents, a dark chrome grille, and more. Pricing for the G70 3.3T Sport begins at $50,495 for the RWD model, while AWD versions cost $52,495.

To celebrate the launch of the 2019 G70, Genesis has announced two special-edition models with a production run limited to just 400 examples of each. The 3.3T Design Edition builds upon the 3.3T Prestige trim, adding an exclusive Black Forest Green exterior color, cream-colored Nappa leather seating with quilted stitching, and dark green door panels. In RWD form, the Genesis 3.3T Design Edition will cost $49,745, while adding AWD bumps the price to $51,475. Based on the G70 3.3T Sport, the Dynamic Edition adds performance brake pads, electronically controlled suspension tuning, and improved vehicle cooling, with pricing starting at $51,245 for RWD models and $53,245 with AWD.

Though it remains undetermined how the G70 will measure up to stalwarts in the segment such as the BMW 3 Series or the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, packed with a generous list of standard features and tech – and very accessible pricing – the G70 is coming out swinging.
